1) Eligibility Criteria:

a) Must be at least 18 years old

b) Must be literate in English and one other language

c) Be dedicated to the well-being and health of all canines

d) Hardworking and willing to learn

e) Must have a high moral standard and sense of responsibility at work

f) A customer- and patient- oriented individual

g) Class 3 Licence (manual) is a bonus but not a must.

2) Program:

a) Learning of techniques from Zoe Gan (owner and canine massage therapist @ Pawsitive Sensations) Linda Lee & Michelle Lim (Assistant canine massage practitioner)

i) About 20% theory & 80% hands on practicum

ii) Will experience at least 40 actual practical sessions

iii) By end of apprenticeship, student will have knowledge of many different types of breeds, age, characters of dogs.

b) Learning theory of canine physiology

c) Learning of homeopathic healthcare

d) Understand and applying the concept of holistic care for dogs

e) Learning the running of Pawsitive Sensations business

3) Duration and Cost:

a) Apprenticeship is for 5 to 6 months to become an Assistant Canine Massage Practitioner (Assistant CMP)

i) Monthly fee of $400 for 4 months

ii) 20 to 25 hours of training per week.

iii) Allowed to work off fee cost by working as a doggy boot camp sergeant or other positions outside of training hours as is convenient to Pawsitive Sensations

iv) Bonded to Pawsitive Sensations for 18 months upon successful completion (subject to pro-rating if position available upon completion is part-time)

b) Additional 8 to 12 months to become a Canine Massage Practitioner (CMP)

i) Monthly fee of $300 for 6 months

ii) 15 hours of training per week

iii) Bonded to Pawsitive Sensations for 18 months upon successful completion.

4) Benefits of learning under Pawsitive Sensations

a) Numerous chances for hands-on learning on many different breeds and health issues. This is something that you cannot get through distance-learning courses or theory courses. You will essentially be gaining valuable experience during the apprenticeship at Pawsitive Sensations.

b) Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship to Assistant CMP, you will work at Pawsitive Sensations as a full-time or part-time qualified ACMP.

c) Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship to CMP, you will work at Pawsitive Sensations as a full-time or part-time qualified CMP.

d) All assistant CMPs and CMPs will also receive a commission of 10% for each dog they massage and treat on top of the monthly salary received.

Ep 2 - Where to invest and how much?

In this episode, Mirriam MacWilliams Chief Trainer/Wealth Mentor shares with you tips on where to put your money, and how much of it to put in your investments.

How much of your savings should you set aside, for investing?

That will depend on the instrument that you are going to use for investment purposes. I believe that in growing your savings account as much as possible, and then using as much as possible of that money, to grow it.

YOUR MONEY MUST WORK FOR YOU
	Don't put it under the mattress.
	Put it to good use.
	Keep pace with inflation.

I am not in favour of having your money under the mattress, for example, because your money needs to be positioned so that it can always work for you. You want to be able to keep pace with the rising cost of goods and services, and this is not going to happen if your money is parked in a cookie jar.
You can create a very nice portfolio, have your money positioned so that when opportunities in the market place arise, you can take advantage of these positions.
The amount of capital that you are going to invest is predicated on the instrument that you are going to use on investment purposes.
So, for example, someone who is inclined to buy stocks is going to have to set aside a little bit of a wider capital base, than someone who is going to use options because they are going to be leveraging that investment capital.
But there are different instruments of trading and different capital requirements. And just based on where you stand, how comfortable you feel purchasing stocks and leveraging your capital.

Beginners are advised to take up instruments that involve less risks. Which would that be?

I would say that, my personality does not lend itself well to buying individual stocks. And I probably think that the individual person may not be suited for individual stocks as well.

YOUR MONEY MUST WORK FOR YOU
	Do not try to cherry pick stocks.
	Go for basket of stocks.

If I am going to participate in a particular stock, I would prefer to leverage my capital and use options. I think that when we get to a certain point in our lives, or if I am bullish on the retail stocks for example, I am going to not try to cherry pick the stock as much as I am going to try to participate in the whole basket of stocks.

RISK IS PART OF INVESTING
	Identify a potential risk before it arises.
	Seeks ways to minimise, eliminate risks.

In the US, that is a very wonderful opportunity, because now, risk is so much more minimised. Risk is a big component of investing. We have to first learn to identify a risk that is going to present itself, anytime our money is in the market. And then we have to seek ways to minimise the risk, or eliminate it completely.

Which areas do you feel are of lower risk?

I find option trading to be lower risk than owning a stock. Because when people buy a stock, and that has happened to me, and when the stock starts going against me, maybe I bought a stock and that's going down, I have a tendency of burying my head in the sand. I had that tendency.
My experience was that I was not experiencing a loss, until I sold it. And that was a very dangerous thing for me to do, because my retirement account was experiencing seriously some strong losses. I then realised that if I invested in options, options forced me to take action. If a trade is going against me, I have to take action, or action will be taken for me. So that's why I found for me, options was less risky than stocks, because I was able to draw a line, and control my losses.

What about property and real estate?

They are wonderful opportunities. In the states right now, we are at a point where real estate prices are a little high. Interest rates now are causing home prices to level off.
What I did was, I made my money first in the stock market, and then I started to look at all different types of business opportunities, or real estate opportunities, that presented themselves. But first, I did generate my wealth through the stock market, I found it easier.
Stock markets are really unpredictable. How much time should you set aside to monitor you investments?
For me, I welcome market fluctuations, because that is now how I am making money. For someone who has a keen sense about how market works, is not concerned about the daily fluctuations of stock prices. So that, a person who is looking to invest, we are talking about investing here, with a perspective of generating a nice 100% return on capital, in a two, three, four week period of time, I would say, monitor the market maybe 15 minutes in the evening, the least amount of time, the better.

RISK IS PART OF INVESTING
	Do not monitor stock prices too much.
	Not good for long-term investment goals.

I realised that when I have the time to monitor the market, the results are not as favourable for me. You cannot monitor the daily fluctuations of stock prices, because they are not good for your overall long-term investment goal.

Should beginners diversify their portfolio? Should you be looking at short-term, or long-term?

Those are questions that only you really can answer. You know how much time you have, to invest in the market place and also where you stand financially.
For me, I look to be in the trade, for about two, three, four weeks. That's as long term as I want to be. I look at every position that I take, as a potential opportunity to capture a very nice return. If it happens in that period of time, I am very happy taking my money off the table.

RISK IS PART OF INVESTING
	No such thing as safe, loss-proof investment.

Is there such thing as a safe loss-proof investment?

No, I have not come across one yet.

So what is the key to a successful investor?

I think the key to a successful investor is to be an informed investor - to be able to start with a very small capital, to be able to learn how the stock market grows.
As the stock market starts to grow, go back to your previous question about learning how not to stuff all your money into one stock. We need to learn how to diversify our portfolio so that we have a certain amount sitting in cash.
Cash is a position too, and that money, while not in the market, is generating interest. And so be able to position ourselves only when the opportunity for being able to generate a strong return is the highest.

A lot of time, investors forget, they always think about capital appreciation. But capital preservation is also very important. What would you say, to sum up everything we have talked about this morning - the three key main points when it comes to capital preservation, that an investor should consider.

YOUR MONEY MUST WORK FOR YOU

An investor should always have a point of be able to get out, to the upside, have the stock when it goes in their direction, to be able to have a point at which they want to exit. But by the same token, have the point where they want to exit at what may be a potential loss.
You need to have a trading plan, you need to follow that plan, and never trade without a stop-loss.

What To Aim For With Web Design

The visual design part of a website, is probably the part which has the greatest risk of unravelling a good marketing strategy.
Google are a great company to learn from, about what works on the web. There is a page on which their User Experience Team share their good website design aspirations. Let’s look at what they say..

Focus on people – their lives, their work, their dreams.
Every millisecond counts.
Simplicity is powerful.
Engage beginners and attract experts.
Dare to innovate.
Design for the world.
Plan for today’s and tomorrow’s business.
Delight the eye without distracting the mind.
Be worthy of people’s trust.
Add a human touch.

If we apply those in a way which is about us building our online identity, establishing those three core elements of Authenticity, Credibility and Trust, we can expand in a way which guides us as to what to focus on.

1. Focus on people – their lives, their work, their dreams.

Understand what really matters to your audience, what is truly important to them. Find a way to express your own natural talents and passions, in a way which helps them realise their dreams and aspirations. Ultimately, it is an experience which users want. The experience of feeling a level of certainty about life, themselves, and their ability to fulfil a purpose. The experience of significance in their work and relationships, their roles and through they way they contribute. And ultimately the experience of connection with those they are closest to, connection to and being part of, something bigger than they are. Help people create and live their own life of meaning and purpose.

2. Every millisecond counts.

Google say that speed is a boon to users, and it is also a competitive advantage. Time is one thing we have no control over. We can’t manage time, only our attention and our priorities. Don’t waste what is most valuable to your users: their time. Get clear about the purpose of your website, and make it lean, fast and responsive. Make it intuitive, easy and therefore fast for them to find what they want. Get straight to the point, stay focussed. Constantly improve your effectiveness.
In technical terms, keep it light on graphics and scripts. Test your site over on http://tools.pingdom.com – see what is slowing your site down and optimise it. Use caching, and a fast hosting company.

3. Simplicity is powerful.

Simple is good, fast, focussed, clear and effective. You should have very clear goals for each page on your site. Keep in mind what matters to the client, and provide that in the way you do best. Confucius says “man who chases two rabbits catches neither..” Aspire to clean, lean and focussed. The less distraction, the more effective the message.

4. Engage beginners and attract experts.

Build a site that is an experience and not just a destination. Don’t end the conversation by providing information or opinion. Start the conversation by creating questions that engage your customer’s passion and creativity. Help them grow. Help them achieve what they want to achieve,but more subtly, provide the opportunity for them to become who they aspire to be.
Understand the range and diversity of your visitors, and speak their language, at their level. Keep it simple, and keep it open. Have links to more information where people can go deeper if they choose. Make it very easy to interact – and if you’re clear about the powerful role of social media in marketing – make sure you participate in the conversations.

5. Dare to innovate.

Innovation is one of the most valuable assets within an organisation or an individual. Closely related to creativity. Caveat: make a distinction between the ‘what’ and the ‘how’. Hold the ‘what’ (the goal and purpose) firmly in your mind, and innovate with the ‘how’ (the ways to achieve the goal or purpose). If innovation and creativity creep over the fence and affect the ‘what’, you will lose focus and become less effective.

6. Design for the world.

Again, when you really connect with your users, you have an understanding of what is going n in their lives, where they hang out, their habits, dreams and typical technology tools. Design so that wherever they are, they can get what they want. Are they mobile and using their phone, iPad, tablet? Are they away from their own desktop computer, on a public cybercafe. Are they looking at your website or are they reading your RSS feed? Are they following other’s shared links.

7. Plan for today’s and tomorrow’s business.

Today’s business is often about immediacy and the transaction, whereas tomorrows business will rely mostly on relationship. The big picture for your website is about creating a connection, and building a relationship. At the same time, your visitors are usually here for a specific reason, based on a need or a want – and it’s important to meet that up front.

8. Delight the eye without distracting the mind.

Tricky one this.. Delight the eye, yes, simplicity and form, the look and feel, are often a very large part of the first impression. And again, simplicity is key. We also want to attract and focus the mind – with a glaringly obvious headline that cause the following thought in the user’s mind: “Ahh I’m in the right place – this person understands what I want.” So the general approach is to not distract the user with the design, not to attract their attention to the design. Instead, provide a supportive and yet directive framework to channel the users attention onto what matters most to them – the content, and what the content will bring them in terms of an experience. It warrants a separate post of it’s own, but the key in education based marketing. No sales.

9. Be worthy of people’s trust.

The three elements are Authority, Credibility and Trust. Important ways to establish these are through clarity and focus of your own values. Transparency. Demonstrate and give examples of what you offer. Also, be prepared to give before you expect to receive. As part of the education based marketing approach mentioned in the previous point – be willing to give away the ‘what’ – i.e. provide the answer in it’s entirety. Treat your visitors as if they are already your customers. For the ones who you are in a position to work with as clients, they will ask you to help them achieve the ‘what’. We can establish authority with our knowledge, experience and past achievements. We can establish credibility with genuine testimonials, case studies, social ratings, likes and recommendations. But we have to earn trust. The quickest way is to ‘give’, to connect personally and build a relationship fast.

10. Add the human touch.

Ultimately it’s always about putting people first. There’s a wonderful science called axiology, the science of value. In essence, it establishes that the very fabric of reality is hard-wired with a hierarchy of value: people are more important than things. Things are more important than ideas of things. People are the most valuable of all, their feelings, their dreams, their passions – all stuff of the heart, not the head.

The Secret Agenda Behind The Student Loan Scam

Student loans are an educational help tool that the government created back in the 1970′s to help finance the high and rising cost of education for the baby boomers and subsequent generations that followed them. What originally began as a benevolent aid to help put you through college has morphed into a monster that has only grown astronomically with time.
Today, the sum total of all student loan debt in the United States is more than a trillion dollars. Even though other forms of lending to consumers have declined significantly since the financial crisis of 2007 to date began, Moody’s Analytics July of 2011 report demonstrated that the balances of student loans have actually risen in this time frame at an incredible rate of greater than ten percent each year.
In the paragraphs that follow, you will learn what the problem is with the student loan industry, why these loans have become a scam, who Sallie Mae is in the scheme of this sneaky industry, and the reason that nothing is being done to put a stop to these despicable and predatory lending industry practices today.

What is Sallie Mae?

Sallie Mae is the friendly sounding moniker for the Student Loan Marketing Association. The government granted this group a special charter to be a GSE, or government sponsored entity, back in 1972. The entire purpose of the company originally lay in its mandate to ease the access of students to higher level education. They were to do this by acting as a secondary market maker in the student loan business. As such, Sallie Mae was intended to become a warehouse organization for private lenders who made student loans.
This GSE succeeded at this early endeavor in its first twenty-five years, and it managed to make money while it helped students to afford college with loans that you could reasonably hope to re-pay within five to ten years after you graduated from college and started to work a steady job. The problem arose when Congress enacted the SLMA Privatization Act in 1996.
Sallie Mae quickly recognized an opportunity to reorganize their operations under a larger holding company. This new entity possessed both the traditional GSE subsidiary companies as well as non-GSE regulated subsidiaries. The government sponsored entity operations began to dwindle in both size and importance to Sallie Mae, who finally abolished them completely on December 29th of 2004.
What had happened to the originator and warehouser of student loans? It took less than ten years for Sallie Mae to realize that they could make far more money if they made private student loans directly to the students under less scrupulous standards that were not effectively monitored any longer by the Department of Education. They also began to buy out student loan servicing companies. In short, Sallie Mae had become an evil empire that no longer held the best interests of its student borrowers at heart.

What Happened to the Once Benevolent Student Loans?

As the largest student loan guarantor transformed into a monstrous largest direct student loan lender, some terrible changes began to manifest in the once benevolent student loan programs. These loans that had begun as a product to encourage students to afford college or university hideously changed into a product that became more devious and sinister than even the scariest types of credit card debts.
How did this occur? The roots of the decline of the noble student loan date back to 1978. At this point, the government modified the bankruptcy laws so that you could no longer discharge under bankruptcy protection laws the government guaranteed and issued loans, along with some of the private student loans.
The student loan industry continued to lobby congress for more and more of these bankruptcy exemptions until by 1998, practically every kind of education loan, private or federal, had lost its bankruptcy protection discharge status. Congress even carried this practice a step further in 2005 when they enacted new legislation that expanded the boundaries of no discharge loan types to cover any money that might be utilized for education purposes of any kind by either a family or a student.
These predatory practices and laws continued to grow in popularity in the 1990′s. The Truth in lending Act, along with most state usury laws that prevented lenders from charging exorbitant interest rates, were taken out of student loan legislation. Penalties for student loan default increased legally to as high as 25% at this time.
The Department of Education only made matters far worse when they started to sign deals with private collection companies to help them collect on late federal student loans in 1996. The Department of Education began to allow even 25% collection bonuses to companies that could collect on their student loans that had defaulted. Besides this, many of these collection agencies lied to the borrowers about their rights and sent them into programs that made their own collection agency firms more money at the expense of the stricken student borrowers.
The government also allowed those student loans that became delinquent, or unpaid for nine consecutive months, to be treated by stringent collection practices. A court order was not required for them to garnish as much as 15% of wages, a borrower or even co-signer’s tax refund, and also social security and other government benefit payments. Now there was no place to hide if you owed student loans that you could not repay.
A final death blow to those students who graduated and found that they could not re-pay their student loans came in the form of statues that 19 different states set up. These permitted defaulted student borrowers to have your professional licenses revoked or even to lose your job if you work in the public sector. Such borrowers are likely already suffering from employment problems since they can not make payments on their student loans in the first place.
The insult to injury from the government on student loans pertains to student loan refinancing options. Federal student loans may only be refinanced a single time. After this, you have no recourse to lower your interest rate on the loans that you took out, even if interest rates decline substantially.

How Does Sallie Mae Make More Money On Student Loans if You Default?

It is not bad enough that Sallie Mae began to make unscrupulous loans to students directly in a grasping effort to increase their profits. Once the group reorganized, it quickly learned that it could make enormous amounts of money on student loans when it bought out the biggest student loan collection firms in the nation.
Now Sallie Mae could make greater sums of money off of student loans that went into default than they could on those loans that were paid off as per their original terms. This led to the de facto encouragement of Sallie Mae’s student loan service companies to perform a terrible job with their loan administration work. They knew that the worse they were in their customer service endeavors, the greater the chance was that their student borrowers would enter default. Defaulted loans meant high penalties and higher interest rates.

How Are These Predatory Practices Permitted to Continue?

There are a variety of reasons that such predatory lending practices endure to this day. Even though you have seen a public outcry arise on the subject of student loans, especially as part of the Occupy Wall Street movement, there has been no improvement in the oversight and rules that surround the student lending industry.
This is partly the result of a deadly effective lobbying effort on the part of the executives, insurers, and lenders of Sallie Mae, who have witnessed their own company profits and then bonuses skyrocket as they have pushed more student borrowers off of the cliff.

Eight Paragraphs for Leader.

1.Ours is an organized society and any organization, for the accomplishment of its objectives, requires efficient leadership. Title of leadership must reflects the real spirit which leads the ship , or otherwise leadership is being mocked and undermined. Efficient, dedicated leadership and resources, both natural and human, are requisites for a nation to develop and progress. The days when people could be driven are long gone and today people are led. An educated and sophisticated group of people need an intelligent and forward-looking leader. The students have their teacher to follow, the family has their father, and the nation has its political leader.

2.The leader is the symbol of unity. The president is symbolic of the links that bind the citizens of the nation. It is often leadership that strengthens an organization and makes it vigorous and viable. Often, when a leader is discredited, the organization is thrown into a minor tumult and rival leaders vie to checkmate one another. Where the leader is not acceptable to the majority, the members will be divided, and a fragmented organization will be an ineffective one.

3.In school or nation, the Principal or President is the leader of the teachers or ministers and the students or citizens. Where he fails, the mental, physical and moral welfare of the students or citizens will be neglected.The teachers or ministers look up to their leader for guidance and leadership. having won the confidence of the teachers or ministers, he is able, with their help, to create an ethos which is so vital to the effective functioning of the school or nation. At home, the head of the family would be able to foster in the children the virtues that he displays.

4.Leadership should be dynamic and forward-looking. The leader should be able to adapt his policies to the changing circumstances and find new solutions to old problems. When he is conservative and unwilling to change because of his traditional beliefs, he becomes ineffective as a leader and loses his hold on his members. The smug satisfaction which a leader enjoys when he comes into the lime-light should not make him complacent and idle. By his dynamism, new followers are to be won and opponents transformed into friends and followers. He should be quick to abandon out-moded and decadent ideas.

5.A Leader should be patient and tactful. A Leader in a hurry often fails. A Leader should be aware of the susceptibilities of his people-citizens and should not jibe at their weaknesses. The measures that he adopts should not run counter to their beliefs and customs for the success of any plan depends on the involvement of the majority of the members-citizens. Arbitrary decisions can lead to failure. A leader should be resourceful and must be capable of sound judgement. He must be tolerant of the weaknesses of others and should be prepared to accept criticism.

6.Leadership should be efficient and intelligent. A good academic qualification is a"sine qua non" of leadership. The intellectual acumen that usually goes with a high standard of education is necessary to find solutions to the many problems that he meets with. Almost all leaders have the gift of the gab. With the ability to speak fluently and impressively he is able to win over his members citizens and influence their thinking.

7.Leadership should not be corrupt in all aspects of private and public life. A mercenary is easily spotted and isolated. Corruption precedes decay and disintegration. The leaders that shine forth in the political horizon today are those who have forsaken selfishness and self-interest. They are human-centered and altruistic. To be admired at home the leader should be admired abroad.

8.Bereft of an efficient, honest, fair-minded, courage, positivism, intelligent, public-centric leader, a nation falls divided and an association or an organization becomes static. Where the very existence is threatened, a dynamic and efficient leader can create calm out of chaos and help the nation to progress. This person i observed in Tan Kin Lian.

The role and the key duties of the President are spelled out clearly in the constitution. There are various ways in which the President can carry out the duties and I will seek the way that will be best for the country and the people. My views are expressed in this statement:

Statement by Tan Kin Lian – role of the Elected President
1. Recently, some present and previous senior members of government sought to clarify the role of the Elected President as defined in the Constitution of Singapore.
I welcome these clarifications and in principle agree with and respect the prerogative and responsibility of the Government to govern. I accept that the President's office is NOT a separate political centre and does not have any executive power. My own published statements as well as those in my blog have made the very same points.
The gist of the comments has been that the Elected President has only "custodial powers" and not "executive powers". I agree with these comment and in doing so, I would like to point out that we should not suggest that these custodial powers are unimportant or ineffectual. By definition, custodial responsibility entails the provision of protective supervision and guardianship. The Elected President does not govern but is responsible for ensuring that the defined areas under his "custody" are properly and satisfactorily governed. Much can be achieved in a climate of co-operation and mutual respect. This will inevitably lead to national harmony and progress.
I believe that one does not need to be armed with strong executive powers to make an impact. A well qualified and properly elected President will make his impact through the power to persuade, to influence, to counsel, to convey feedback and if necessary, to articulate informed positions on specific issues.
The founding fathers of the Elected President's office would have wanted it to perform more than ceremonial duties. To quote Law Minister Mr K Shanmugan, "the President's veto powers are an important check against a profligate government squandering the nation's reserves, or undermining the integrity of the public service". These powers and responsibilities cannot operate in a vacuum and the Elected President should be given all needed support by the Government and the Civil Service to discharge these.
If I were elected as the President, I like to be able to work in full co-operation with the Government within the roles defined in the Constitution of Singapore. I will not have any political affiliation and will be guided by my five values of Honesty, Fairness, Positive Approach, Courage and Public Service. I will at all times also be guided by the views of the people, which I will actively seek.
It is my hope that in his desire to ensure enlightened transformation, the Prime Minister and his Government will respect, support and facilitate a credible role for the Elected President, for the overall good of the People of Singapore,

2. Reply: I can only suppose that the words "measured and considered" expressed by DPM Teo suggest that that the campaign should be carried out in a dignified manner. I agree with that view.

I also agree that the President should be a unifying factor for all Singaporeans. This statement was first made by Dr. Tan Cheng Bock and I am happy to share the same sentiment.
I believe that Singaporeans can be unified by sharing similar values. I want to encourage them to embrace the values of values of honesty, fairness, positive attitude, courage and public service. Many people have told me that they like these values and are happy to support them.

My actions will be guided by these values. For example, I want to be honest and positive in expressing the concerns expressed by many Singaporeans about safeguarding their CPF savings and the reserves of Singapore. I want to help to address their concerns can be addressed in a constructive way. One way is for the President's Office to issue an annual report that the citizens can understand. This will help in the communication and educating the citizens.

I also shared my views about public service - to address the concerns expressed by many Singaporeans about the high salaries earned by the top leaders, including the President. I want them to know that I am not contesting this office for the high remuneration and will be willing to donate a significant part of the President's salary towards charity, if I am elected. (I hope that my personal views on this issue does not cause any discomfort to other government leaders - as I recognise that they have financial needs and priorities that are different from me).

I respect and support the timely action taken by the Prime Minister to set up a review committee to review the salaries of the top leaders and hope that it will, to a large degree, address this concern of the people. I will do my best to get the people to understand and accept the positive actions that are being taken now.

I believe that the people of Singapore will feel engaged, committed and proud to be Singaporeans, if they feel that they have a voice and that it is being heard. I hope that the office of the President can play a part to provide this channel - although I recognise that other channels are also being developed. To support this initiative, I have suggested the concept of the President's personal council - which I will be giving more thought to in the weeks ahead.

3. I also like to conduct my campaign in a dignified manner. I will follow my values of honesty, fairness, positive attitude, courage and public service and will ask my supporters to do the same. I do not wish to cast any candidate in a negative light or to engage in any activity that may smear or belittle their reputation or character. Instead, I have high regards for the positive qualities of all the candidates who have expressed their interest to contest the presidential campaign.

Many citizens have asked for my personal views on several issues of concern to them. I shared these views so that they can understand what are my values and beliefs. I will also emphasize to them that these are personal views for them to judge me as a person and should not be misunderstood to be the policy agenda that I would promote, if elected into the President's Office (as I have no such intention).

delivered to you by men? Can you say, “Father, everything I
have is from You“? Can you say, “Father, I only want what is
from You; I ask for nothing from men“? If you can say this,
you can be at rest, and you can give praise.

The Lord said, “No one fully knows the Son except the
Father.” He also said, “Neither does anyone fully know the
Father except the Son and him to whom the Son wills to reveal
Him” (v. 27b). Only those who are willing to be known by God
alone will know God, and only those who know God can lead
others to the knowledge of God. Those who do not know the
Father cannot lead others to the knowledge of the Father. If
you are satisfied with being known by God alone, you will
know God. Only those who are known by God will know God, and
only those who know God can lead others to the knowledge of
God.

FAITH MUST BE RESTORED

The Bible tells about man's being alienated from and an enemy to God. Should this sound harsh or extreme you have only to imagine your closest friend coming to you and stating in cold seriousness that he no longer has any confidence in you. "I do not trust you. I have lost confidence in your character. I am forced to suspect every move you make" - such a declaration would instantly alienate friends by destroying the foundation upon which every friendship is built. Until your former friend's opinion of you had been reversed there could be no further communion. People do not go boldly to God and profess that they have no confidence in Him and they usually do not witness publicly to their low view of God. The frightful thing, however, is that people everywhere act out their unbelief with a consistency that is more convincing than words. Christianity provides a way back from this place of unbelief and alienation: "He that cometh to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him." God took the wrong upon Himself in order that the one who committed the wrong might be saved!

FLORIDA COURT SETS ATHEIST HOLY DAY

In Florida , an atheist created a case against the upcoming Easter and Passover Holy days. He hired an attorney to bring a discrimination case against Christians and Jews and observances of their holy days. The argument was that it was unfair that atheists had no such recognized days.

The case was brought before the judge. After listening to the passionate presentation by the lawyer, the judge banged his gavel declaring,"Case dismissed!"

The lawyer immediately stood objecting to the ruling saying, "Your honor, How can you possibly dismiss this case? The Christians have Christmas, Easter and others. The Jews have Passover, Yom Kippur and Hanukkah, yet my client and all other atheists have no such holidays.."

The judge leaned forward in his chair saying, "But you do. Your client, counsel, is woefully ignorant."

The lawyer said, "Your Honor, we are unaware of any special observance or holiday for atheists."

The judge said, "The calendar says April 1st is April Fools Day. Psalm 14:1 states, 'The fool says in his heart, there is no God.' Thus, it is the opinion of this court, that, if your client says there is no God, then he is a fool. Therefore, April 1st is his day. Court is adjourned!"

Sanctifying God's Name by Building Up Zion
Israel was told to be holy because God is holy. And His Name is holy. Kiddush Hashem (Hebrew for "sanctification of the Name" of God) is a biblical concept based upon Leviticus 22:32: "You shall not profane My holy Name; I will be hallowed among the people of Israel." It refers to deeds and words in public that bring honor and glory to God and to faith in Him. Obedience to God's commands even beyond the requirements of the Laws, as an expression of sublime faith, embodies the term Kiddush Hashem.

Its counterpart is Chillul Hashem ("desecration of the Name of God) and refers to any public transgression of religions or ethical principles or any misdeed that brings dishonor to God or discredits faith in Him.

The simplest form of Kiddush Hashem is the public acknowledgement in song, prayer or speech that God is holy. Man imitates the angelic beings who declare to each : "Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of His glory"(Isaiah 6:3). Jews pray, "May His great Name be magnified and sanctified," just as Christians pray, "Hallowed be Thy Name."

The highest form of Kiddush Hashem is unflinching obedience to God despite the imminent threat of death. History records many cases of Jews willing to die for the sake of their faith, by martyrdom, under rulers nd tyrants who gave them the choice of abandoning their Jewish beliefs and observances, or death Nebuchadnezzar, Darius, Antiochus Epiphanes, as well as under the Romans, the Crusaders, the Inquisitirs or, in modern times, the Soviets. Often Jews were kiled simply for being born Jews, as happened during the Holocaust.

The Bible provides a dramatic example of sanctification and profanation of His Name in which Jews and Gentiles (non-Jews) both play a role. I the following case, God is so jealous for His holy Name that has been profaned that He is determined to rectify the grave situation personallt and in a spectacular way. In a sense, He fights for His Name holiness. Despite the gravity of this case, most of us would probably not immediately think of it when pondering the sanctity of God's Name.

EXILE CAUSES DESECRATION
When Israel sinned and went into exile among the nations, the Getiles taunted not just Israel, but ridiculed God too, profaning His holy Name by saying, "These are the people of the Lord, and they are gone forth out of His land"(Ezekiah 36:20). In other words, the ntions mocked God's apparent inability to keep His people in His land. This, of course, does not excuse israel, whose sins led to this defamation.

In an almost similar situation, Moses pleaded for God not to destroy the Israelites at Kadesh-barnes in order to prevent ridicule by the Egyptians of what would be perceived as God's inability to bring the Israelites to the Promised Land (read Numbers/Bilangan 14:13-16; Deuteronomy/Ulangan 9:28).

While sin led to exile, the suituations that actually resulted in the public profanation of God's Name was Israel's absence from its God-given land. This is emphasized repeatedly in Ezekiel/Yehezkiel 36, as we shall see.

THE MESSAGE IS IN THE DETAIL
Modern Bible critics consider seemingly mundane repetitions and superfluous words i the Bible/Alkitab as proofs of human authorship, sometimes clling them archaisms: "That's how people spoke in those days." But the rabbinic commentators regard them as meaningful and intended by God. When a word or phase is repeated three or even seven times in a biblical narrative, as happens frequently in the original Hebrew (but often lost in translation), the commentators see such recurrences as emphasis, directing us to the underlying message.

In Ezekiel 36:16-19, we read that due to sin, God scattered Israel among the nations. In verse 20, we then read something evident and redundant: "When they entered the nations where they went ..." Obviously, they went to the nations to which they went. It is unnecessary to say "where they went." Besides, we already know they went there from the previous verse.

The following verse, 21, is similar. Israel profaned God's Name "among the nations where they went" by giving opportunity to the Gentiles to mock God. Again, besides being repetitive, it is stating the obvious to add "where they went."

Finally, inverse 22, we read one more time that they profaned the Name "among the nations where they went."

Three times, in three consecutive verses, we read the words "where they went." The narrative would make perfect sense even without that phase. It appears to be superfluous. But God does not speak unnecessarily. Each and every word that proceeds from His mouth is life-sustaining (Deuteronomy 8:3). So why does He say it three-times? What is the point? Where they went is precisely the point.

God intended for us to be in His Holy Land. But rather than prospering in the Land of Israel as aholy nation and a kingdom of priests, we allowed ourselves through our disobedience to be scattered among "the nations," also referred to three times.

God's threefold emphasis, a seemingly redundant detail, reveals what lies at the crux of the desecration of His Name - Israel's exile among tha nations. Just as important, though, we also learn the remedy.

GOD RESTORES HIS HOLY NAME AND RESTORES ISRAEL
God cares intensely for His Name (Ezekiel 39:25) and He intends to rectify the situation. "But I had pity for My holy Name ... I do this not for your sakes, O house of Israel, but for My holy Name's sake ... And I will sanctify My great Name ... For I will take you from among the nations, and gather you out of all countries, and will bring you into your own land" (Ezekiel 36:21-24).

God santifies His Name, restroes His honor, by ending the exile, bringing Israel back to its land. The physical restoration of Israel to its land brings about Kiddush Hashem, sanctification of His Name, just as the exile caused Chillul Hashem.

DO CHRISTIANS SANCTIFY HIS NAME
One might think that Christians who prays, "Our Father Who art in heaven, hallowed [sanctified] be Thy Name," would share God's concern for restoring and maintaining the sanctity of His Name. One might think Christians who profess faith in God and in the holy Bible would share God's sympathies and be like-minded. If God says He will sanctify His Name by restoring Israel "to its own land" (Ezekiel 36:24), it should be expected that Christians would respond with a resounding "amen."

Many Christians support Israel's restoration as prophesied in Ezekiel 36 and elsewhere, and encourage the repatriation of Jews to Israel. Sadly, there are also many who do not. Some replacement theologians explain the many prophecies of Israel's re-establishment by claiming they were fulfilled when Israel returned from babylon 2,500 years ago and have nothing to do with Israel today. But even Paul, over 500 years after the return from babylon, still cite Ezekiel 36, referring to the desecration of God's Name among the nations, applying it to his own period (check Romans 2:24). No doubt he also believed in the rest of Ezekiel's prophecy concerning Israel's future national restoration.

Even more incomprehensible is the phenomenon of people claiming to be Christians who actively oppose Israel's restoration to its own land.

Recently, the Presbyterian (USA) and the Methodist (UK) Churches held general conferences at which reports on the Middle East conflict were presented, which overwhelmingly adopted the Palestinian-Arab narrative of the conflict. The churches accuse israel of occupying Palestinian land illegally. The Methodist report views Israel's so-called occupation as the key hindrance to security and peace in the region. Radical Islam's rejection of Israel's right to exist, in the form of Hamas, Hizbullah or Iranian-sponsored terrorism, is not even mentioned. Presbyterian leaders supported a proposal to end all US aid to Israel unless it stops settlement expansion. These churches ignore the historical connection of Jews to israel, not just 2,000 years ago, but 400, 300, 200, and 100 years ago. They even try to suggest the Jews and israel today have nothing to do with ancient biblical Israel.

Those churches are not alone. Other churches and Christian organizations have made calls to boycott Israel or divest from Israeli companies or companies doing business with Israel. While God is restoring Israel, their goal is to dismantle it. God wants to rebuild Israel, they want to freeze and uproot. They oppose God. By doing so, they continue to descrate His Name, knowlingly or not committing Chillul Hashem. It's almost unnecessary to ask them, Don't you believe in the Bible?"

THE BIBLICAL VISION OF ISRAEL
The Biblical prophets envisioned an Israel restored to all its land, including Gaza, Samaria, Judea, the Golan. They did not distinguish between a West and an East Jerusalem. The Prophets Joel and Ezekiel condemn the nations that try to divide Israel and take away its land for themselves. They warn if divine judgment upon the nation that rob Israel of its land.

The prophet Ezekiel said (39:25-29) that God will sanctify Himself by regathering Israel out of the nations and will not leave a single Jew in exile (verse 28). That did not happen when the Jews returned from Babylon or at any other time in history therafter. Most Jews remained in Babylon even when the return to Israel and the rebuilding of Jerusalem and the Temple occurred.

Clearly, the Prophet Ezekiel was not referring to the return from the Babylonian exile as "replacement" proponents claim, but to an event far in the future, which we are witnessing today.It is not finished, but a work in progress. One of the proofs is the blossoming of the desert today, for the first time in 2,000 years.

OTHER WAYS TO SANCTIFY GOD'S NAME
While ther are many ways to sanctify God's Name, Israel's restoration is important because God speaks so specifically and emphatically about it. It is impossible to ignore thhis aspect of Kiddush Hashem.

In another dramatic examples, also in Ezekiel, God speaks about sanctifying His Name among the nations by destroying those who attack isarel to rob abd plunder, specifically Gog of Magog (chapter 38 and 39).

Just as Israel had a choice to obey or disobey, to stay or be exiled, ultimately paying a heavy price, so do the nations have a choice. They can support God's Plan of Restoration for israel and sanctify His Name. Or, as some have chosen, they can oppose Israel's regathering, thereby desecrating God's Name further. Christians should always render special loyalty to upright and godly rulers, both in the ballot box and in all their behaviour. Godliness never makes violent ractionaries against proper law and order. Christians should be the best patriotic upright citizens. Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's, and unto God the things that are God's, Jesus said.

Strength Through Struggles, struggles produce strength

Everytime I begin to feel that there just isn't anymore strength in me,
I end up knowing that there is more ... in Christ.

If we are saved there will be struggles to face,

to surrender daily to God, now I've learn to die daily, if we're to do as we should.

A sign of our surrender is the ability to forgive,

Imagine living in a mansion with no electricty,
imagine the confusion and chaos there would be.
Only able to see when the Sun is shining bright,

is like trying to be a Christian without Christ in me.

I must confess and invite Jesus to abide within me, again.
then each day I must surrender to Him again.

Giving HIm my mind, my heart and my soul,
asking Jesus Christ to direct every word, every thought, every deed and every goal.

My surrender being absolute and complete,
from the top of my head to the bottom of my sole of my feet.

Not only my thoughts, my deeds, and my actions,
but I must also ask that Jesus Christ guide my every reaction.

The flesh is incurably bad. It is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. It can never be any better. It is no use trying to improve the flesh. We may educate it all we please. We may train it by the most approved methods, we may set before it the brightest examples, we may pipe to it or mourn before it we may treat it with encouragement or severity. But its nature will always be incorrigibly the same.

The wild hawk which the little child captures in its infancy and tries to train in the habits of the dove will fasten its cruel beak upon the gentle fingers that caress it, showing the old wild spirit of fear and ferocity. So the flesh is a hawk by nature, and it can never be made a dove. For the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.

The only remedy for human nature is to destroy it and receive instead the divine nature. God does not improve man. He crucifies the natural life with Christ and creates the new man in Christ Jesus.

It has pleased the Lord to teach me a truth, the benefit of which I have not lost, for more than fourteen years. The point is this: I saw more clearly than ever that the first great and primary business to which I ought to attend every day was to have my soul happy in the Lord.

The first thing to be concerned about was not how much I might serve the Lord, or how I might glorify the Lord; but how I might get my soul into a happy state, and how my inner man might be nourished. For though I might seek to witness to the lost, or to benefit other believers, or to relieve the distressed, or in other ways seek to behave myself as it becomes a child of God in this
world; nevertheless, if I myself am not happy in the Lord, and have not been nourished and
strengthened in my inner man day by day, all of these other things might not be done in the
right spirit.

Before this time my habitual practice had been, at least for ten years previously, to give myself to
prayer immediately after having gotten dressed in the morning. Now, I saw that the most
important thing I had to do was to give myself to the reading of the Word of God, and to
meditate on it, so that in this way my heart might be comforted, encouraged, warned,
reproved, instructed; and that, by means of the Word of God, while meditating on it, my heart
might be brought into experiential communion with the Lord.

I began therefore to meditate on the New Testament from the beginning, early in the morning.
The first thing I did, after having asked in a few words the Lord's blessing upon his precious Word,
was to begin to meditate on the Word of God, searching into every verse to get blessing out of
it; not for the sake of preaching on what I had meditated upon, but simply for the sake of
obtaining food for my own soul. The result almost invariably is this, that after a very few minutes
I have been led into prayer of some sort, whether confession, or thanksgiving, or intercession, or
supplication; so that, although I do not give myself specifically to prayer, but rather to
meditation, nevertheless my meditation upon the Word turns almost immediately more or less
into prayer.

After a time of confession, or intercession, or supplication, or giving of thanks arising out of my
meditation upon a few words or a verse, I then go on to the next words or verse, turning all, as I
go on, into prayer for myself or for others, as the Word may lead to it, but still continually
keeping before me that food for my own soul is the goal of my meditation. The result of this is,
that there is always a good deal of confession, thanksgiving, supplication, or intercession
mingled with my meditation, and my inner man is nourished and strengthened spiritually, so
that by breakfast time, with rare exceptions, I find myself in a peaceful and happy state of
heart. In addition, not only am I fed spiritually, but also during these times of meditation the
Lord also communicates to me truth which later I find to be spiritual food for other believers—
even though in the first place it was not for the sake of teaching or preaching or the public
ministry of the Word that I gave myself to meditation, but simply for the profit of my own inner
man.

The difference between the way I prayed before and the way I pray now is this: Before, when I
awoke, I began to pray as soon as possible, and generally spent all my time till breakfast in prayer.
But what was the result? I often spent 15 to 30 minutes or even an hour on my knees in prayer
before deriving any benefit from it, and often, I would really begin to pray only after having had
my mind wander for the first 10, 15 or 30 minutes. I scarcely ever suffer now in this way because
my heart, having first been nourished by the truth of God's Word, has been brought into
experiential fellowship with God. As I commune with God around His Word, I then speak to Him
as my Father and my Friend (vile though I am, and unworthy of it) about the things that He has
brought before me in His precious Word. It often now astonishes me that I did not sooner see
this point.

I never read about this method in a book, nor did anyone ever tell me about it. And yet, now, ever
since God taught me this concerning meditation and prayer, it is as plain to me as anything, that
the first thing the child of God should do every morning is to first obtain food for his inner man.
Just as our outward man is not capable of working long unless we eat, and as this is one of the
first things that we do each morning, so it should be with the inner man. We should take food as
well for the inner man.

Now, what is food for the inner man? Not prayer, but the Word of God; and here again, not
merely reading the Word of God without comprehension, so that it simply passes through our
minds like water running through a pipe, but instead, taking time to consider what we read,
pondering over it, and applying it to our hearts.

When we pray, we speak to God. Now, prayer, in order to be continued for any length of time
from the heart, generally requires a certain amount of inward strength or godly desire, and the
time when prayer can be most effectually performed is after the inner man has been nourished
by meditation on the Word of God—where we find our Father speaking to us, to encourage us,
to comfort us, to instruct us, to humble us, to reprove us.

We can profitably meditate, with God’s blessing, even though we are ever so weak spiritually; in
fact, the weaker we are, the more we need meditation for the strengthening of our inner man.
When we pray in this manner, our minds will wander far less than if we simply give ourselves to
prayer without first taking time to meditate.

I emphasize this point so much because of the immense spiritual profit and refreshment I have
gotten from it myself, and I strongly encourage all my fellow believers to consider what I have
said. I believe that it is because of this method of meditation and prayer that I have received from
God the help and strength to pass in peace through deeper trials than I had ever had before; and
after having now practiced this method for over fourteen years, I can most fully recommend it to
you.

In addition to meditating on the New Testament and praying like this first thing in the morning,
it is my practice later in the day to read larger portions of the Word of God, as I read
systematically through the Bible, sometimes in the New Testament, and sometimes in the Old,
and for more than twenty-six years I have proved the blessedness of it. I also take other
opportunities during the day just to pray.

How different it is when the soul is refreshed and made happy early in the morning, from what it
is when the service, the trials, and the temptations of the day come upon one without such
spiritual preparation.

Prof Chan went on to say that an Environmental Scientist whom he met at Suzhow meeting told him "my relative who owns a bean sprouts farm said that because of the use of hormones, the sprouts normally take 5 days to be ready for sale is now ready in 1 day. Truckloads are sold to Canton and no one in his village will eat the stuff they farmed. "

Hairy Crabs : Mostly from Jiangsu .. Each year, the crabs became more affordable due to large harvest. They are bred using all kinds of toxins : hormones, antibiotics. From the baby crabs stage, the crabs are fed around 10 types of chemicals. In Fujian , they are worse, they will feed the female crabs with birthcontrol hormones so that the mother crab will be plumb and ready.
24 hours after they are fetched, the crabs arrive HK dinner table, but not before they were fed one last time with antibiotics so that they will stay healthy enroute.
If you walk along the small streets in the Crab Farms, you will see many shops selling "Medicine for Crabs"; there are at least 10 different kinds on their "menu".
Next Magazine Investigative Journalists took 12 Hairy Crabs for lab test. 11 of them have 土黴素. 6 have 氯黴素 All damaging to blood, and esp bad for pregnant women and foetuses.

《If they tell you their crabs are fed by organically (versus Chemically Fed), that means they are fed by decomposing carcases of dead cats, dogs, chicken. The dogs died from first being poisoned, or from diseases. The owner of the crab farm pulled from under a bed a dead carcass, deskin and dehaired it, waving a piece of the leg proudly pronouncing it as "organic feed" These dogs came from a private vendor that kills the dogs by poisonous gases. The dog died from chemical poisoning.
The investigative journalists from HK witnessed such display of "organic feeding" when the farmer tossed the dog carcass into the pond. They watched 2 crabs feeding on the decaying carcass.
The Fishery Dept of the govt showed that the most famous YC Lake for Hairy Crabs, at maximum can only produce 13,000 Class 1 Crabs. HK imported 130K crabs all claiming it's from YC Lake.

JiangSu natural water engineer Mr Tong, TK said the the whole of China claims that the hairy crabs they sell are from YC Lake. The only exception being those sold in Tibet , a desert :-P
Turtles, Snakes, all fed by chemicals, as well as birth control hormones.

Toxin fed Crabs, snakes, eels, turtles, all fed for revenue, not forgetting fake milk powder, Fish from fish farms, bean sprouts, fake soya sauce, fake seaweeds, fake eggs ........ Color-enriched tomatoes, melon seeds, grapes...... all massive exploits to milk cash. Why is all that happening in China ?
First: Lack of govt control. To be fair, even if the govt wish to do it, they cannot keep up with the sudden market demand as consumers as the surging middle class have a lot more cash nowadays.

2nd : Greed.

3rd and most fundamental reason : This has led to the current problem of the maximization of profit at the cost of morality.

4th: The lack of Family Values (as kids growing up, the only family value bred them is how to make money). The daily mantra is "Study hard to ultimately get rich."
The adults feel that they have to make up for "lost" time when they were deprived under the Totalitarian regime when the govt kept what they harvested. While their bank accounts swell, they are morally bankrupt.

Good News and Judgment
Wherever the Word comes without power its essential content is missed. For there is in divine truth an imperious note, there is about the gospel an urgency, a finality that will not be heard or felt except by the enabling of the Spirit. We must constantly keep in mind that the gospel is not good news only, but a judgment as well upon everyone that hears it. The message of the Cross is good news indeed for the penitent, but to those who "obey not the gospel" it carries an overtone of warning. The Spirit's ministry to the impenitent world is to tell of sin and righteousness and judgment. For sinners who want to cease being willful sinners and become obedient children of God, the gospel message is one of unqualified peace, but it is by its very nature also an arbiter of the future destinies of men.

This secondary aspect is almost wholly overlooked in our day. The gift element in the gospel is held to be its exclusive content, and the shift element is accordingly ignored. Theological assent is all that is required to make Christians. This assent is called faith, and is thought to be the only difference between the saved and the lost. Faith is thus conceived as a kind of religious magic, bringing to the Lord great delight, and possessing mysterious power to open the kingdom of heaven.

One of our CCA leader to be top students in AJC, Zheng Wei Han of 26/08 is largely motivated by what he aspires to do in the future, which is to provide a comfortable life for his family. As it is, his family played an important role behind his success. It kept him going even when the going got tough. Wei Han has been offered Accountancy at Singapore Management University(SMU) and Nanyang Technology University(NTU), as well as a place at the University of Michigan's Engineering faculty. he has accepted the latter.

True to his portfolio as the Vice President of ODAC, Wei Han deals with stress by heading to the outdoors. He jogged to unwind and later, switched to cycling after an ankle injury. He is also a keen photographer.

When asked about his studying method, Wei Han had two words for it: Understanding and Attitude.
He said, "Understanding is a big part of how I learn. During lessons, I made it a point to understand what the tutorials were about. Then, attitude: You can sulk at the tutorials piling up or you can start working at them." Wei Han added that a positive attitude towards learning goes a long way.

Surprise !
When our Vice-Principal, Mrs Tay, called me to her office when I arrived for my results, I was afraid I had done badly. Things turned out well in the end (what an understatement!) ! When i had recovered from the surprise, I am very happy I had done well and all my hard work had paid off.

Revision Tips ...
First, i read the notes to make sure I understand every concept before I do practice papers to apply those theories in the notes. I normally study at home and sometimes in our school library. The school library is convenient as the staff room is just next door so I could consult teachers easily if I have any doubts. I don't have a fixed timing for revisions. I just rely on my body to tell me to stop when I can't take in any more information. I started my revision when I was preparing for my Prelims. You have to keep practicing after the Prelims to keep the momentum going and so that you will not forget everything you had revised.

Benjamin cannot do without ...
Sweets. I just need something to chew on and keep my brain fresh and so sweets are the must-haves when I study. [Its Me comment: The human brain uses sugar/glucose as energy , hence this craving for brainy guys/gals. Babies and elderly folks love sweet too.]

Benjamin's advice ...
Start your revision early. Really. You may have already heard this many times from your tutors but that really is the best thing you could do to be well prepared. Panicking at the last minute will only make you absorb less info. Good luck and all the best!

Q1: Can you describe how you feel on knowing you're the top Arts student in AJC?
ThaddeusSim : What can I say? Going through that whirlwind of emotions, at the end of the day, the right word I should use is a feeling of inner satisfaction that I did my best.

Q2: What are your future plans?
ThaddeusSim: I am considering taking up either a double major or double degree in Economics and Business at Singapore Management University (SMU). I have been offered and interview most probably in April.

Q3: Being in Alpha and having to cope with so many activities on hand, how do you deal with the stress?
ThaddeusSim : Ultimately, it is a matter of one's attitude. I had to look to these moments with optimism, knowing full well that they were part and parcel of any JC student's life and I was no exception. One of the ways to de-stress is actually listening to music, going out with friends or just staying at home and playing with some video games. I have also found that escaping the confines of my house to get some fresh air can actually make a load of a difference.

Q4: Lastly, do you have any advice for your juniors?
ThaddeusSim: One of the things I learnt from my PD tutor, Miss Sharmini Johnson, is that there are always lessons to be gleaned, whether it is from failures or achievements. When we meet with failures, we should not let them stymie us; rather we should learn from them and move on. An old adage that i still find relevant today : Work hard, do your best, and if you don't succeed, try and try again. There is nothing you cannot do if you set your hearts and minds to it.

Q: What motivated you to aim and score high?
JoyceHoJiaLer : I was especially motivated by my dream to become a doctor and so I worked hard in order to qualify for NUS (Medicine) [8000 application for NUS Medicine admission last year , only 200 plus are shortlisted]. It has always been my aspiration to be able to help cure illnesses and make a difference in people's lives. My family was another source of motivation. Their encouragement and constant support have been invaluable to me.

Q: How did you deal with the exam stress just before and during the A Level exams?
JoyceHoJiaLer: Time management is crucial. One month before the 'A' Level exams, I planned my schedule everyday. Consistency is important and last-minute rushed revision only worsens the stress.

Q: What were some of the greatest challenges you experienced in the course of your studies, and how did you overcome them?
JoyceHoJiaLer: The greatest challenge was having to juggle my CCA [Co-Curriculum Activity) and my studies. I often got home at 10pm, came to school exhausted the next day, and struggled to stay awake during lectures and tutorials. I made full use of breaks and weekends to catch up on my work.

Q: What role/position did you play in your CCA?
JoyceHoJiaLer: In ODAC, I was in the Executive Committee and held the position of Assistant Sea Chief. Together with my Sea Chief, we planned and led sea expeditions for my CCA mates.

Q: What advice do you have to share with the next batch of JC2 students?
JoyceHoJiaLer: What's more important than failing is recovering from our failure and turning the situation around. Follow what our principal often preaches, "Begin with and end in mind," It's never too early to start preparations , since excelling in the 'A' Levels requires consistent effort and a positive learning attitude. Believe in your abilities like I did and make a difference. You'll be opening plenty of doors for yourself after that.

People come to facebook to find affection and are turned off by our tepidity?
Choose to be warm and affectionate with goodness and mecy to others. Be a benefut to them friends, but equally important, it is to be a blessing to God.

New year 2010 Peaks

"On the first day of the month were the tops of the mountains seen." This is the fifth verse taken from Genesis chapter 8.
And this verse has a unique applicability to the first day of a new year.
The "tenth month " here corresponds with our January ; so the "first day " is our January first.

What an exhilarating discovery were those uncovered mountain-tops that first day! The first Great Flood was declining. God had not " forgotten to be gracious" . Those mountain-tops speak to us on the first day of this year.

What will the mew year 2010 bring, of joy or sorrow, achievement or frustration, health or worse sickness, more good or ill? We honestly cannot foresee what darkness vales or verdant plains or surprise vistas the unfolding months may unveil. Yet if we are truly's Christ's , (or if you are not Christ's yet, why not today?) we are not in total obscurity. Up from the unknown, misty morrows, certain grand securities stand out in advance view.

Dear reader-friend or stranger, there are those reassuring mountain-tops, the divine promises ; "exceeding great and precious promises " , pledging to us the divine presence , protection, provision, throughout the coming days, Oh, those sunbathed peaks, " the promises" !

1.There are the mountain-tops of spiritual possibilities . To all who have received Christ our Lord gives " power to become " (see John 1 :12). "You are . . . you shall be " (in John 1:42). Let us wrest our minds away from pathetic enchantment with " it might have been " , and say afresh , "I can do all things through Christ who strengthen me " as recorded by Paul in epistle Philippians chapter 4 verse 13.

2.There are the mountain-tops of our Christian privileges - of fellowship "with the Father and with His Son; of heavenly joy and peace and guidance imparted by His Holy Spirit ; and many more. To be or not to be is a choice you decide today for yourself.

3.There are mountain tops of challenging opportunities. How they shine always in the new-year's sun !
Forget the failures of the past, except to learn from them to trust Christ more and trust yourself less ; and prayerfully resolve on godly conquest in this new year 2010.

4.And there is that glory-capped peak , the hope of our Lord Jesus Christ's return. The darker the times, the more resplendently it shines, gilding all the unknown tomorrows with its lovely guarantee of ultimate blessedness. See the millennial world rule of Messiah-Emperor Jesus ; then the final abolition of sin, the general judgment of mankind at the great white throne, and the bringing in of the new order, with its new headquarter city, the New Jerusalem, Holy City, in which the eternal King is the glorified Lamb !

But note : (i) The mountain-tops were sen from the ark, which typified our Saviour. We must be in Him for safety. No such radiant peaks greet those who are out of Him.
(ii) They were seen from Ararat , which means "holy ground ". Without true consecration there can be but hazy vision of the higher truths. Knowing the truth set one free from darkness.
(iii) They were seen from another mountain top. We ourselves must be on a high altitude. Some of the Lord's people live, as it were, in the basement of the ark, in the twilight of a faith which is never quite sure. They lie against the ribs of the vessel, hearing the thud of the waters, and nervously asking whether the ark can survive the strain, and whether or not salvation in Christ will last. This is a joy-killing suspense. Fellow-believer, if you aren't one as yet, what's holding you back(?), as the new year comes in, climb the ark !
Gaze out from the higher places, with "assurance of faith ". Look, the "TOPS OF THE MOUNTAINS" !

Hello friends, over the last several months I have been wrestling with a prophetic warning that I received from God. In this letter, I am going to share these things with you.

This warning from God is not one to be taken lightly. Based on its contents, every one that is reading this prophetic alert needs to prepare themselves and their families for very hard events that are approaching. The warning of God always begins with a trumpet sound. And by the leading of the Holy Spirit, I am sounding an alarm.

A very loud alarm!

If you reside within the borders of the United States, what is coming, concerns you and your family. If you reside outside of the borders, you will also feel the residual effects of what is coming. So likewise, take notice!

A quick summary of this warning includes the following: In our future, America is going to face the incredible torrent of a Dollar crisis. How bad will it be? Bad enough to forever change the landscape of the United States! What is coming will not be a mere correction in the markets, but instead, will be at the level of currency extinction!

The Super Depression

It is not easy to share these things. But as Americans, we are all facing a tsunami of economic destruction! The US Dollar is going to collapse! As a result, life in America is going to change. The once strong middle class of the USA is going to be slaughtered and replaced with a new type of lifestyle. The rest of the world calls this lifestyle; Third world living!

The historians that chronicle the approaching crisis in America will have to fumble to find the right words; The Greatest Depression - The Dark Years of America - The Super Depression, etc.

America, the once mighty fortress of commerce and strength has lost her luster to the world. And in the next few years, this will become very evident to her apathetic citizens.

When the financial super storm arrives, the administration will no longer be able to lie to the public and say, "All is well and recovery has begun!"

It will be difficult for the media, to successfully tell the general public that things are okay, when the people are starving and eating out of garbage dumpsters!

A Prophetic Dream - The Dollar's Demise

In a recent Audio, released October 16, 2009, I shared this warning including some prophetic dreams that revealed the details of what is coming. I would like to share those things again in this message that you are now reading.

It all started, approximately 7 months ago, in early 2009. Back then, I had a prophetic dream that I kept to myself because I did not understand it. I consulted other Christians about it. But they did not understand it either. Some of them said that the dream could not be correct because the timing of it did not match popular predictions.

The dream was very short but this is what occurred;

The Dream begins ---------------------------------------

I was speaking to a financial expert who told me that in Mid-August of 2010, wheels would be put into motion to abandon the US dollar and after this happened, everything was going to change!

End of dream. ---------------------------------------------

For seven months, I wondered about this dream. One of the main reasons, was because many people were saying that in the fall of 2009, the dollar would crash. So, I kept the dream to myself because it went against the popular warnings that many of you had read during the spring and summer of 2009.

But still, I kept praying and seeking God about it. And finally, God answered my prayers. Approximately August 15, 2009, I had another prophetic dream.

Second Dream begins: ----------------------------------

In this dream, I found myself at a shopping mall. I was hungry, so I decided to go to the food court to eat. When I arrived there, all of the food court restaurants were closed and out of business except for one. It had a sign; it was called "School Cafeteria."

Many people were in line to eat at this School Cafeteria Restaurant. I remember saying to myself, "Well this will be good. School food is cheap!" I assumed that the meal would be about two dollars!

The restaurant did resemble a school cafeteria. The ladies serving the food were school cafeteria workers. As I ordered my food, there was only one choice for a meal. It was a slab of processed chicken with some mashed potatoes and a few green beans. I took the plate of food to the cashier. Then she said, "That will be $30!"

"Thirty dollars!" I protested!

"I'm not going to pay that!" I said!

I left the food and walked away. I exited the shopping mall and decided to go eat somewhere else. As I left the mall, a restaurant appeared in front of me. It was a Chinese restaurant. I walked toward it. There was a waiter standing outside of the restaurant showing everybody his menu. The waiter was Chinese.

I walked up to him and said, "I just want coffee. How much is a plain cup of coffee?"

The Chinese waiter smiled and pointed to his menu. As I looked at the menu it read, “Coffee - $10.”

Again, I was shocked and angry that it cost so much money. So I walked away.

The dream was over. ------------------------------------

When I had this dream, I did not realize that it was a confirmation to my earlier dollar dream several months previous. So again, I kept it to myself. Then I had a third and final dream just several weeks ago at the beginning of October, 2009. But this dream helped me to finally understand what God was trying to say.

The third dream begins ---------------------------------

Again, in the dream I was hungry, but this time, I was in the cafeteria of an actual school! I am not sure if it was a middle school or a high school.

As I got in the line to get some food, I asked the cashier if they were still open. She said, "Yes but in order to get a special price, you need to have five people in your group.”

I noticed that all of the other people in line were adults. In fact, I did not see any children. The adults all looked like they had been working the whole day. I noticed a prostitute in the line and also a construction worker who was dirty. The prostitute looked dirty and middle aged.

I asked the cashier, “What is the special?"

She said, “Well, it is Thanksgiving dinner!"

I asked her, "How much is the dinner?"

She said,” It is five meals for ninety-nine dollars!"

I shouted, “Five for ninety-nine dollars! That is twenty dollars each!”

She said, “Yes! And if you want it for this price, you need five people in your group!”

Again, I protested.

The dream was over! ------------------------------------

After I had the third dream, I began to realize that these three dreams actually went together. So, I began seeking God over many days and hours of prayer.

And finally God answered! This is the message that God revealed through the Holy Spirit (Note - I was told the following by the Holy Spirit approximately October 14, 2009)

He said:

"In the days ahead, a secret meeting is going to take place somewhere in the world. The participants of this meeting will decide that they are going to abandon the US dollar. And the target date that they would decide to begin abandoning the dollar would be what you heard in the first dream, Mid-August of 2010!"

The date or the location of the meeting was not revealed to me.

I also need to be very clear; my prophetic dream did not say that in Mid-August of 2010 the dollar would collapse. What it did say, was that in Mid-August of 2010, the wheels would be put into motion to begin abandoning the dollar. After that, everything was going to change!

Everything will Change!

I find it interesting that in the dream, I heard the word "Change!" That was the moniker of the Obama administration: Change!

I believe that the “Change” that is coming is going to be very, very unpleasant and will result in a much different existence than what Americans are used to! I wonder if this coming “change” was part of their plan all along?

For the record, I do not know how long it will take for this “change” to work itself through the financial history of America. I do not know if it will take one year, five years or 10 years.

God only revealed that in August of 2010 wheels would be put into motion.

Also, when these wheels are put into motion, I do not know if they will be announced to the news media. It is entirely possible that all of these events are going to take place behind the scenes. Therefore, it may be difficult to track them. God did not tell me if this news would be made public.

At the time of this writing, late November, 2009, it is possible that the meeting to abandon the dollar has already taken place. Or, it may still be coming. I do not know! (I am handicapped by limited prophetic information.)

Nevertheless, the remaining months of the dollars health are sure to be bumpy as the dollar spirals downward.

Some things that I have wondered about are:

1. Will the US dollar lose much of its value before the wheels are "placed in motion" for abandonment in August of 2010?
2. Will the dollar’s future performance be so horrible, that it will cause this decision will be made?
3. Was the Thanksgiving dinner that was being served in my third dream a clue to the timing of when these things will happen? Again, I don't know!

But the conclusion about this prophetic warning is this; the US Dollar’s days are numbered!

Expensive Food

During the coming super depression, one of the sources of food will be provided by government soup kitchens. Hence the school cafeteria feeding adults!

Another big player in the coming Dollar collapse will be China. That is why a Chinese restaurant was in my dream. So besides soup kitchens, another food source will be the smiling Chinese! But getting food from China will come with a hefty price! A price that many Americans will either be unwilling or unable to pay! Why? Because in the future, as the dollar loses its value and also its reserve currency status, things in America are going to become very, very expensive!

How expensive is it going to be? Were the prices of the meals in my dream an indicator of what is coming? Those meals saw increases of 500 to 1000% !

As I continued seeking God, I asked Him, “How bad is it going to be?"

And it was through several more hours of prayer and travailing that I actually saw the picture of what is coming to America. And what I heard was very, very disturbing!

Lamentations is Coming to America!

Sharing these things is not easy because I do not know if I can justifiably describe the intense horror that lies ahead in our future. As I was seeking God, the Holy Spirit whispered to me, “Lamentations is coming to America!”

When I pressed for an explanation, I was told that the things that are written in the Old Testament book of Lamentations would happen in America's future. The Holy Spirit told me to read the book of Lamentations. Also, He said when you see the word Jerusalem in Lamentations, substitute the word America as you read it! Not to rewrite the Scriptures, but instead to get a picture of how things are going to look in our future.

So I did! And I was overwhelmed with what I read.

When the prophet Jeremiah wrote the book of Lamentations, it became his diary of what he saw when Jerusalem was invaded. As he wrote his report, he was overwhelmed with tears, heart ache, grief and sorrow! (Lamentations 1:16)

His words painted a picture of something that is only witnessed in nightmares!

He saw people that he knew and loved starving to death in the streets! (Lamentations 2:11)

He witnessed the death of children that just a few years earlier he held in his arms as swaddling babies! (Lamentations 2:22)

He witnessed the ear piercing screams of mothers holding their dying children who pined away from hunger! (Lamentations 2:12)

He saw the young men of the town who had been pierced through by the invaders! (Lamentations 2:21)

He witnessed an economy that was destroyed with failed money! Only people willing to trade their valuables were able to get bread! (Lamentations 1:11)

He saw all the wealth of the city looted by foreigners. (Lamentations 5:2)

He saw people who were once rich, reduced to begging in the streets! (Lamentations 3:17)

As Jeremiah witness all of these things, his strength and his health failed him. It was too much for him to bear! He tells us in Lamentations that the things he saw made his digestion system fail!” (Lamentations 2:11)

Lamentations, five chapters describing the judgment of God! And soon, these same events will visit the land of America!

From coast to coast, the fall of America's economy will be evident. Restaurants, stores, and shopping malls will become abandoned "see-through" buildings with broken windows and in disrepair. People who once stood in line for concert tickets will instead be standing in line for food!

The Cup of Iniquity !

Why? Because America's cup of iniquity is full! God is holding the cup in His hand…. and it is boiling!

The voices of God's messengers have been warning for years that America needs to repent! But instead, America went the other way. In her arrogance, she has boasted that she does not need God or His commandments. And now America’s leader has proclaimed that she is not a Christian nation!

Her judges have proclaimed that freedom to “do what thou wilt” is nobler than “Thine will be done!”

America is guilty! The blood of her innocent ones flows through her sewers. They cry out from the ground and also from her cosmetics, facial creams, and vaccines! America has committed crimes against the laws of her forgotten God and also, against humanity!

And now it has been determined that she must pay!

Therefore, coming soon to America, the things written by Jeremiah in Lamentations! So my friends, do yourself a favor and read it!

Can it be stopped? It is already arriving!

The hardship that is coming to America is not a typical business cycle. It is going to be the largest financial reboot in the history of humanity! The United States dollar is going to lose its reserve currency status in the world.

When this happens, the citizens of America will learn the real meaning of poverty, a lifestyle that half of the world's population has already been experiencing for many years.

Bitter or Better

The events that are coming are going to be bitter-sweet to the population. Some people will not be able to handle it, and they will fail in the future journey. Many will fall by the wayside through defeat or through self-destruction. The emotional heart ache and stress that the future is going to bring will be too much for some individuals. Spiritual endurance will be the key to survival!

What is coming is not a curse. It is a chastisement. And yes, it will also be painful!

Very painful!

But through the coming events of hardship, many of God's people are going to discover the true providence of God. Many in his remnant are also going to discover and realize that the best things in life are not things! Many people will actually discover their faith in God. They will realize that the path that lies ahead will be an opportunity to minister to the weak as they themselves are also being purged.

The time to prepare for all of these things is now, my friends! The spiritual bank account needs to have some deposits…NOW!

Your bank account of prayer needs to have some deposits….NOW!

Your knowledge of the Word of God needs to increase…NOW!

If by chance you are reading this and you happen to be famous or wealthy. Perhaps you're a celebrity in your field and have a lot of self-confidence. Please know this; the storm that is coming is not going to play favorites.

The only thing that will save you or any of us is humble repentance to the Lord God, your Creator! Jesus Christ!

So how do we prepare ourselves for what is approaching?

Get Ready!

Step one - get your spiritual house in order. The only ones that will be able to weather what's coming will be those that have surrendered their lives to God in repentance and in humble favor in His sight.

I am not just talking about first-time believers! I am talking about everybody! We must all repent! The majority of people who call themselves Christians today are living an unfortunate two-faced lie; where they have a life that is full of closet sins. In the future, having these dark secrets will not work in one’s favor to be protected by God.

I must also mention that this is an “equal family opportunity.” Entire families under the same roof should be challenged to repent! So, Moms and Dads! Please have a meeting with your children and tell them what is coming! And then, either pray with them or start praying for them!!

After a session of repentance, begin preparing with practical means. The window of opportunity to prepare is closing before our very eyes. Start now by saving extra food because it's going to get very, very expensive!

If possible, pay off your car or buy a cheaper car that is free and clear. If job loss is in your future, you do not want to be worrying about a car payment.

If you have a savings or retirement fund, take the time to educate yourself on preserving your wealth. Notice, I did not say increasing your wealth! I said preserve your wealth! Why is that? Because when the dollar starts losing its value, people who have their money in savings accounts will see the buying power of their dollars diminish.

Hedge the value of your money now, by converting it to gold or silver bullion or other currency. You may need to get advice from individuals who not only are qualified but who also understand that the dollars going to crash. Please do not choose generic financial advisors who have no knowledge of what is coming. They will steer you wrong!

Educate yourself now on the science of preparation. Research this topic on the Internet, read Christian forums. But by all means, get started now if you have not already.

There is much work to be done!

Find the mercy of God my friends. Do it now!

My life as a Christian for the past 14 years (1988 - 2002) were filled with joys, sadness, fear, doubts, happiness, sorrows, victories, frustrations, encouragement, discouragement, pleasant surprises, delights, misunderstandings and most significant for me is the purpose of living.

Before conversion. Sebelum konversi

I was brought up in a typical Chinese family, in a small town, Seremban in Peninsular Malaysia. Aku dibesarkan dalam keluarga Cina yang khas, di sebuah kota kecil, Seremban di Semenanjung Malaysia. My father drove a school bus for a living, while my mother was a housewife who faithfully cared for her family. Ayahku mengendarai sebuah bus sekolah untuk mencari nafkah, sementara ibuku adalah seorang ibu rumah tangga yang setia merawat keluarganya. My siblings of four brothers and a younger sister were nurtured and taught the traditional ways of ancestral worship with a mixture of Taoism.
Saudara saya dari empat bersaudara dan seorang adik perempuan yang dirawat dan diajarkan cara-cara tradisional leluhur ibadah dengan campuran Taoisme. Respect for elders and filial piety towards one's living parents were expected. Menghormati orang tua dan bakti terhadap orang tua hidup seseorang diharapkan. Greeting our parents before we left home; after we returned from schools and outings; and even before we began eating our meals were common practices. Sambutan orang tua kita sebelum kita meninggalkan rumah; setelah kami kembali dari sekolah dan tamasya; dan bahkan sebelum kami mulai makan makanan kami adalah praktek-praktek umum.

During my primary schooldays, a Christian classmate invited me to her church service. Selama saya masih sekolah dasar, teman sekelas Kristen mengundang saya ke gereja. I did not have any deep impression of what was going on then.
Saya tidak punya kesan yang mendalam tentang apa yang terjadi kemudian. That was the only one time visit to any Christian service I had. Itu adalah satu-satunya waktu kunjungan ke pelayanan Kristen apapun yang saya miliki.

I was an easy-going jovial guy, proud to always claim "I am a free-thinker", not really knowing what it meant, anyway.

In 1982, at the age 19, I was offered an apprenticeship scheme in aircraft maintenance in Singapore.
Pada tahun 1982, pada umur 19, saya ditawari sebuah skema magang di perawatan pesawat di Singapura.
During my first year, my eldest paternal uncle accommodated me in his family's 3-rooms apartment flat.
Selama tahun pertama, saya ditampung sulung paman dari pihak ayah saya dalam keluarganya's 3-kamar apartemen datar. He worked as a taxi driver. Ia bekerja sebagai sopir taksi. Life styles and social interactions here (in Singapore) were entirely different from my hometown. Every one seemed very busy with personal careers and lives. Gaya hidup dan interaksi sosial di sini (di Singapura) sama sekali berbeda dari kampung halaman saya. Setiap orang tampak sangat sibuk dengan karir dan kehidupan pribadi. For family members to have dinner together was a rare thing except during the Chinese Lunar New Year. Anggota keluarga untuk makan malam bersama adalah hal yang langka kecuali selama Tahun Baru Imlek Cina. Living in the atmosphere of an affluent and prospering society, I was caught up with many ideas and aspirations to get rich quick (monetary wise). Hidup dalam suasana yang makmur dan makmur masyarakat, aku tertangkap dengan banyak ide dan aspirasi untuk cepat kaya (moneter yang bijaksana). The salary as an aircraft maintenance technician did not look attractive to me any more. Gaji sebagai teknisi perawatan pesawat tidak terlihat menarik bagi saya lagi. Through a colleague, I joined a social "jog-cum-drinking" club (called Seletar Hash House Harriers). Here, I befriended a wide spectrum of people. Melalui seorang rekan, saya bergabung dengan sosial "joging-cum-minum" klub (disebut Seletar Hash House Harriers). Di sini, saya berteman dengan spektrum yang luas dari orang-orang. There were those with professional status: doctors, bankers, musicians, engineers, lawyers, teachers besides soldiers, salesmen, drunkards and the unemployed. Ada orang-orang dengan status profesional: dokter, bankir, musisi, insinyur, pengacara, guru selain tentara, salesman, pemabuk dan pengangguran. Such club is found all around the world. Klub seperti yang ditemukan di seluruh dunia. Once a week, the members would rendezvous at a place to play games and have some fun. Sekali seminggu, para anggota akan pertemuan di sebuah tempat untuk bermain game dan bersenang-senang. Almost always there was a van around with a free flow of beer and other drinks. Fun was always song-singing mixed with vulgarity and drunken shouting. Hampir selalu ada van sekitar dengan aliran gratis bir dan minuman lainnya. Fun selalu lagu-menyanyi dicampur dengan vulgar dan mabuk berteriak-teriak. Such a stupored state would continue till the wee hours of the morning. Keadaan sebagai tidak sadar akan terus sampai larut pagi. Here, I experienced the "Lifestyle of the (frustrated) Rich and Not-So-Famous" people. Di sini, saya mengalami "Gaya Hidup dari (frustrasi) orang kaya dan Tidak-Begitu-terkenal".

A year after I moved to share a one-room apartment flat with two colleagues. Setahun setelah aku pindah ke berbagi apartemen berkamar satu flat dengan dua rekannya. I was free from cares to enjoy the "bachelors' club" independent lifestyle, or so I thought. Aku bebas dari peduli untuk menikmati "bujangan 'klub" gaya hidup mandiri, atau jadi saya pikir. I never give much thought to wisdom, virtues or the things of God. Saya tidak pernah berpikir untuk memberikan banyak kebijaksanaan, kebajikan atau hal-hal dari Allah. I just follow the trends. Aku hanya mengikuti tren. I took up body building, aspired to be the Asian "Mr. World" some day. Aku mengambil tubuh bangunan, bercita-cita menjadi Asia "Mr World" beberapa hari. I even trained to be Mr. Ironman (Triathlon) of Singapore. Aku bahkan dilatih untuk menjadi Mr Ironman (Triathlon) dari Singapura. Triathlon is a sports competition in which competitors swim 2.5km, cycle 10km, and run 5km. Triatlon adalah kompetisi olahraga di mana pesaing berenang 2.5km, siklus 10km, dan lari 5 kilometer. I joined the Youth Adventurer group and canoed around Singapore Island. Scaling the highest peak in West Malaysia, "Gunung Tahan" (Mountain Tahan), I was stung by hornets and nearly died there. Aku bergabung dengan kelompok Adventurer Pemuda dan canoed sekitar Pulau Singapura. Scaling puncak tertinggi di Malaysia Barat, "Gunung Tahan" (Gunung Tahan), saya disengat oleh lebah dan hampir meninggal di sana.

But life went on just the same. Tapi hidup terus berjalan sama saja. On every Chinese festive day, I would help my second uncle, a Taoist priest, at a temple. Pada setiap hari perayaan Cina, aku akan membantu paman kedua saya, seorang pendeta Tao, di sebuah kuil. Devotees would offer chickens, goats or pigs as their worship sacrifices of thanksgivings. Devotees akan menawarkan ayam, kambing atau babi sebagai pengorbanan ibadah mereka dari ucapan syukur. The blood of the slaughtered animals was offered on the altar, while their carcasses were cooked and served to worshippers. Darah binatang yang disembelih ditawarkan di altar, sedangkan bangkai itu dimasak dan disajikan kepada jamaah. My parents, aunts and uncles considered me to be a faithful and filial son. Orang tua saya, bibi dan paman dianggap saya untuk menjadi setia dan anak berbakti.

Conversion. Konversi

In March, 1988 during a party in a Christian colleague's home, I spotted a "Good News" Bible in his book shelves. (This friend never witnessed to me about Christ.) With his permission I borrowed the Bible and began spending a lot of time on it. Pada bulan Maret, 1988 dalam sebuah pesta di rumah rekan Kristen, aku melihat sebuah "Kabar Baik" Alkitab dalam rak buku. (Teman ini tidak pernah bersaksi kepadaku tentang Kristus.) Dengan izin Aku meminjam Alkitab dan mulai menghabiskan banyak waktu di atasnya.
I even tried to draw out the family tree of mankind based on the book of Genesis but I was stumbled by the many similar names. Most of people are pretty gregarious. We want to belong, grouping. We do not want to be different in a deep, distinctive way, though we may wish to be different in minor details that appeal to our selfich egos.

And to be different from the group and marked as one would mean a certain amount of criticism and sarcasm from a cynical society. Many of us do not want this.

Instead of adding to the present sorrrows and sadness of society we may be called on to HELP BEAR some of the burdens of others, to enter into the suffering of others.

The moment I deliberately do something definite for others that costs me something, I am expressing love. Love is "self-lessness" or "self-sacrifice" in contradistinction to "selfishness" or "self-preservation."

The strength of a nation depends not only on its ability to fight its enemies, but also on its willingness to listen to critical voices from within. Criticism is positive power.

I have never found anything in the Koran that says sharia law must be imposed, as the terrorists demand.

Sorry, i have never found a single Islamic doctrine which says that one is an unbeliever for not participating in the jihad for sharia law.

Religious-based conflicts were mostly related to the formation of an Islamic state ruled by sharia law.

The Muslims who endorse sharia law are basically trapped in the symbolist hole : They are more concerned about the sharia law label vis-a-vis westernized and secular law.

The radical figures inspiring the efforts to enact sharia law seem to think of sharia law as a panacea for every ill suffered by Muslims.

They tend to avoid seriously thinking about the thousands of particular problems that each need their own solution.

Consequently, these radical figures are not successful in improving the quality of life of poor/poorer Muslims, for instance. With their chosen shortcuts, new disasters are created, and not justice at all.

Terrorism in any front/face is not the enemy of just one nation, but of the entire civilized world.

1. Critical cognitive skills, multicultural communication skills and computer competencies are some of today's criteria today's school teachers MUST fulfill.

2. An ideal and practical teacher prepared for today's modern globalised world MUST possess at least, bare minimum, three critical skill sets:
(A) the understanding of international perspectives and cross-cultural differences;
(B) up-to-date teaching methods enhanced with leading-edge technology; and
(C) the ability to develop leadership and critical thinking skills, character and moral values in students.

3. Teachers also MUST find themselves competing against the unlimited world of Internet. Students nowadays are immersed in social networking tools including Facebook, Twitter and Wikipedia.

4. Around the world, universities now are using open-source courses.

5. Literary in Indonesia with approximately 230 million citizens, only 86 percent are able to read. They are "non-aggressive" readers; while the most productive workers are proactive readers , only a small percentage of the overall population reads.

6.Knowledge is power, but knowledge is only going to be powerful if we apply it in our live, daily. We MUST. Education is the strategy anyone can apply to develop and improve one's health and wealth and life. (3) The world is religious and some people (you are just one of people) say it's getting more religious. The problem is most nationality leaders are ignorant about religious matters.

Imagine that you have no friends, no history, now.

(4) Religion has always been important for citizens/non citizens. However, most statemen/statewomen/journalists in this country prefer to avoid religious issues.

(5) The news editors/leaders/citizens should write more about religious issues, especially about the religious dimensions of conflicts. Most writing about religious by local/native journalists was shallow. There is no need to stay in this 'safe' zone anymore in cyberspace civilization anymore.

The only constant factor in all known existence is change. Furthermore, that change is unpredictable by nature. It is only in the acceptance of being in the state of not knowing what comes next, that one finds enlightenment and hence joy in the absolutely unfathomable mystery of life and death.

You'll probably agree with me that we're all of us inmates in this loony bin we're created here on Earth, and it is for this precise reason I am proud to provide this post/warning to what can only be described as a totally insane text, and hope you derive as much pleasure and benefit from it as I have.

On the initial read-through I was amused and bewilded.

On the second run-through, although I still had some mild feelings of queasiness and disorientation, I was starting to wonder if these wasn't perhaps something in what s/he was saying/posting.

By the third time around, I was forced to admit, bemusedly, that thiscollection of loosely-woven histories (every moment spent is just another history in the all histories, right?) of a group of highly bizarre individuals was in fact of the utmost profundity and importance to the world.

What initially appeared as utter nonsense, suddenly came alive to me as a living metaphor for the absolute absurdity of the so-called real-life stories of the countless people I have had the privilege of drawing into conversation, during the course of my extensive comment-'travels' on this crazy planet.

This is an unlikely expedition into the deeper realms of the human psyche.

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama sought Wednesday to cast the intensifying health care debate in terms that matter to ordinary people, promising to offer more savings, security and treatment to millions. Assailing his critics, he declared, "This debate is not a game."
In remarks prepared for the start of his prime-time news conference, Obama said he was determined to help the people who write him letters or speak to him at town halls expressing frustration about paying their health care bills or hanging onto their coverage.
"This debate is not a game for these Americans, and they cannot afford to wait for reform any longer," Obama said. "They are looking to us for leadership. And we must not let them down."
The stakes are huge not just for everyday Americans, but also for Obama, who is putting much of his credibility on the line to gain passage of congressional legislation. His stepped-up public role comes as he faces rising criticism from Republicans, sliding public approval ratings and divisions within his party.
Holding his 10th extended news conference, Obama was renewing a message that the White House says he cannot pound enough: making health coverage affordable and sustainable is so vital that anything less will erode the economic stability of families, businesses and even the government.
The complex work of getting bills through the House and Senate is proving difficult. Republican leaders contend Obama's effort and the emerging bills are rushed and risky, and members of Obama's own Democratic Party are split on how to structure and pay for a daunting overhaul.
Obama sought to get beyond that and connect with Americans — and, in turn, the White House hopes, to pressure Congress. "I understand how easy it is for this town to become consumed in the game of politics, to turn every issue into a running tally of who's up or who's down," he said.
His words came as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Democrats have the votes to pass a massive health care bill in that chamber, prompting surprise and some criticism from conservatives within her party.
Congress is struggling to figure out how to pay for adding millions to the ranks of the insured and slowing the long-term costs of health care in the U.S.
In his comments, Obama reiterated his pledge that any bill he signs will not add to the nation's soaring deficit. "And I mean it," he said.
Meanwhile, a nervous public is being hit by TV ads and claims from all sides.
And other issues haven't gone away as Obama steps before the cameras. Still looming are an economy that keeps losing jobs, wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and Obama's January deadline to shut down the Guantanamo Bay detention facility.
The timing is critical as Obama appeals Wednesday night to a national viewing audience.
He wants the House and Senate to vote on comprehensive health care bills before they break for the summer, a window that is scheduled to shut by the first week in August. That timetable is growing tenuous, though, with up-and-down developments by the day.
So Obama is everywhere on health care: giving Rose Garden statements, visiting health clinics, talking to bloggers, granting interviews.
"He's prepared to do this as many times as he has to," said Michael Traugott, a University of Michigan professor who specializes in political communications. "The president has a special advantage because he's readily identifiable. The Congress is a less well known institution, and less popular in the public's eye."
Obama's approval rating stands at 55 percent, according to a new Associated Press-GfK poll, down from 64 percent in late May and early June. Some 50 percent approve of his handling of health care, but 43 percent disapprove, and that number that has risen sharply since April.
With public opinion still waiting to be shaped on health care, and with the legislative details in flux, what's clear is that people care.
Nearly 80 percent of those polled say health care is an important issue to them. Obama is seeking to extend coverage to millions who don't have it and to hold down the long-term costs of health care. How to pay remain a complex political question.
It didn't help the White House when the Congressional Budget Office last week said the bills moving through Congress would add to the nation's long-term costs, not reduce them. Obama has been emphatic that he will not sign a bill that adds to the government's deficit.
Meanwhile, unemployment is at 9.5 percent and rising.
Talk of Obama inheriting an economic mess from George W. Bush is fading, and the American public is now grading the new president. His approval rating on handling the economy has been slipping as impatience grows.
Obama says the country is moving in the right direction, and he points to legislation from his first half-year in office: a massive economic stimulus bill that is ultimately designed to work over two years, a law to overhaul the credit card industry, and another to keep tobacco companies from marketing to kids.
Still, he told CBS News on Tuesday: "As long as the economy is still shedding jobs and people don't feel confident about a recovery, then, you know, I think there's going to continue to be frustration. And rightfully so."
White House spokesman Josh Earnest said Wednesday that Obama is "feeling optimistic that he's on track, after his first six months in office, to fulfill his promise to sign a health care reform bill before the end of the year."
